Dances of the African Diaspora

This course will introduce students to the history, technique, and movement vocabulary of African Diaspora dance traditions from Brazil, Haiti, Guinea, and the Congo. Students engage polyrhythmic movement, grounded technique, call-and-response structures, and percussive musicality rooted in communal and social traditions. Emphasis is placed on developing strength, coordination, agility, endurance, and rhythm. No prior dance experience required.
