Salsa dance and Latin Dances
This course has been made possible through the generosity of Frances L. "Sunni" Bloland, U.C. Berkeley's longtime Supervisor of Physical Education of social/folk dance, who received the U.C. Berkeley Distinguished Teaching Award in 1990.
Explorations of various club Latin dance forms with emphasis on Salsa. Students will learn to execute Club Latin dance steps in Salsa, Bachata and Merengue.
Level 1:
The emphasis of this class will be on the development of basic salsa steps and vocabulary. Students will also learn correct posture and footwork for Latin dance. Beginning Bachata and Merengue patterns will be introduced.
Level 2:
The Level 2 class will continue to build upon elementary principles to low intermediate salsa patterns with leading and following techniques. Students will also learn Cuban motion and correct etiquette for club salsa.
Level 3:
This class is for the skilled dancer. The students will develop advanced Salsa and Bachata patterns and techniques. There will be the introduction of competitive Salsa dancing, such as delayed walking, settling movement, and high-level leading and following techniques.
