Taekwondo - Self-Defense

The Self-Defense Taekwondo course is designed for students who wish to learn various self-defense techniques based on Taekwondo such as blocking, kicking, punching, basic falling and rolling techniques.

You will improve your agility, balance, flexibility, endurance and overall fitness. Additionally, the class will help you build self-confidence, self-discipline, concentration, focus, and reduce stress.

Level 1:

This class includes martial arts warm-up and warm-down exercises, safety instruction, basic stance, punching, blocking and kicking techniques, Taeguek Poomse (forms) number 1, joint-lock techniques (numbers 1-5), one-step sparring drills (numbers 1-5), Taekwondo history and the socio-cultural background of Taekwondo.

Level 2:

This class will be a continuation of the basic techniques requiring more advanced skill and concentration including movement of body weight in action, combination and counter techniques; Taeguek poomsae numbers 2 and 3, joint-lock techniques (numbers 6-10), one-step sparring drills (number 6-10), and Taekwondo competition rules and regulations.

Level 3:

In the advanced course, difficult combination moves will be introduced as well as Taeguek poomsae numbers 4, 5 and 6. There will be controlled sparring and joint-lock techniques (numbers 10-15) and one-step sparring drills (numbers 10-15) and an emphasis on group and self-training habits. Competition strategies and rules and regulations of the World Taekwondo Federation and the USA Taekwondo will be examined and practiced. History of the international Taekwondo movement and World University Taekwondo development will be introduced.
