Taekwondo - Olympic Style

Since Taekwondo became an Olympic sport in 1988 at the Seoul Olympics, Taekwondo techniques have changed and improved dramatically. The Olympic Taekwondo class will teach you contemporary competition rules and regulations and get you into competition shape. There will be running, jumping and skipping drills to improve your agility, balance, flexibility, endurance and overall fitness. Additionally, the class will help you build self-confidence, self-discipline, concentration, focus, and reduce stress.

Elementary:

The beginner’s course is designed for students who wish to learn various Olympic Taekwondo techniques, including stepping, kicking, punching, and self-defense. Students will also learn physical fitness training, mental discipline, martial arts philosophy and culture. This class also includes martial arts warm-up and warm-down exercises, safety instruction, basic stance, punching, blocking and kicking techniques, Taeguek Poomse (forms) number 1, kicking set number 1, reaction drills (numbers 1-4), various sparring stepping exercises, Taekwondo history and the socio-cultural background of Taekwondo.

Low Intermediate:

The class will be a continuation of the basic Olympic Taekwondo techniques requiring more advanced skills and concentration including movement of body weight in action, offense and defense techniques, reaction drills (numbers 5-8) stepping and kicking combinations and counter techniques; Taeguek Poomsae number 2 and 3, kicking set number 2, reaction drills (numbers 5-8), sparring drills, and competition rules and regulations.

Intermediate:

In the advanced course, difficult combination moves will be introduced as well as Taeguek poomsae number 4, and 5. There will be controlled sparring and kicking set number 3, reaction drills (number 9-12) and an emphasis on group and self-training habits. Competition strategies and rules and regulations of the World Taekwondo Federation and the USA Taekwondo will be examined and practiced. History of the international Taekwondo movement and World University Taekwondo development will be introduced.
