The following equipment list is broken down into several sections:
Skin diving gear is your basic gear that you will use every time you go in the water. This gear must be purchased in order to insure consistency and familiarity. This equipment should last for several years, depending on the amount of use and care it receives.
SCUBA gear is needed for all pool sessions starting the 4th week of class, and all ocean dives. This gear can be purchased or rented. For safety reasons you should use the same equipment all semester long. Borrowed gear will need to be approved by the instructor. If your gear isn't functioning, you don't get in the water. If you decide to purchase this gear, keep in mind that it is life-support equipment, and maybe this is not the place to try and save a few extra dollars.
Ocean diving gear is what you will need on our ocean dives. This equipment, while required, is fairly standard and if you know any certified divers, you may be able to borrow some of these items. On the other hand, if you're going to be a diver, you might as well start getting all of the equipment together now.
Recommended Equipment and Extras are just that. These items will make your diving more enjoyable and some may extend the life of your basic equipment. These items can be added as the semester or your diving career goes on.
Scientific Diving Equipment includes gear that you might use to conduct research underwater. Slates are required for IDS 407 course.
Prices are estimates for budgeting; you may find better, you may pay more.
