Enrollment Instruction

Pre requisites

In order to enroll in the course you need to do the following:

Step 1:  Attend the first class meeting.  At this time we will go over the course schedule and the significant financial and time commitments required by the class.  We will also answer any questions you might have regarding certification requirements or the course in general.  For the lab portion of the evening we will go over the equipment requirements for the course (see below) and selection criteria for divers to follow.

Step 2:  Attend the second class meeting.  After an introduction to diving physics we will head for the pool for a swim evaluation.  Students are expected to be able to swim 300 yards in less than 12 minutes, swim 75 feet underwater on one breath, and should be able to float or tread water for 10 minutes.

Step 3:  Be able to pass a diving medical exam.  The forms for the medical exam will be handed out after the swim evaluation.  Divers must have healthy pulmonary and cardiac systems as well as the ability to equalize pressure in the ears, sinuses, and other air spaces of the body.  Divers may not have any condition that could bring about a sudden loss of consciousness due to the serious risk of drowning.  Divers are encouraged to have the medical exam preformed at the University Health Services Tang Center, or otherwise seek a doctor knowledgeable in hyperbaric medicine.
