Ballroom Dance

New class for Fall 2018!

This course has been made possible through the generosity of Frances L. "Sunni" Bloland, U.C. Berkeley's longtime Supervisor of Physical Education of social/folk dance, who received the U.C. Berkeley Distinguished Teaching Award in 1990.

Ballroom dance with emphasis on step patterns and dance techniques in International and American style ballroom dance such as Waltz, Tango, foxtrot, Rumba, Cha Cha, Samba, Paso Doble, etc.

Elementary:

The emphasis of this class will be on the development of various beginning level ballroom dances and vocabulary. Students will also learn correct dance posture, dance positions and basic leading and following techniques.

Low Intermediate:

The low intermediate class will continue to build upon elementary principles to include more detail techniques and alignments such as figure 8 hip movements in Latin dance and Moving along the Line of Dance in Standard.

Intermediate:

This class is for the skilled dancer. The student will expand the development of Low intermediate vocabulary. There will be the introduction of competitive ballroom dance techniques such as: settling movements in Latin dances and pendulum and metronome movement in Standard dances.
